Small Seal, Big Role

In a LiBr absorption unit, many components may appear minor in size, yet play a significant role in ensuring the unit’s stable and efficient operation. One such critical part is the water chamber seal. Positioned between the water chamber (for chilled or cooling water) and its end cover, the seal is designed to prevent water leakage and cross-contamination between circuits, thereby ensuring the normal functioning of the LiBr absorption heat pump system.

A typical LiBr absorption chiller includes multiple independent water circuits, such as chilled water and cooling water loops. If the water chamber seal fails—whether due to aging or improper installation—issues such as internal cross-flow or external leakage may occur. These faults can reduce heat exchange efficiency, corrode internal components, and in severe cases, cause the entire LiBr absorption chiller to shut down.

Water chamber seals commonly come in two types: the standard type and the U-shaped type.

The standard seal features a flat or rectangular profile. It is cost-effective and easy to replace, making it suitable for areas with lower sealing demands.

The U-shaped seal, on the other hand, has a U-profile cross-section, offering better elasticity and surface contact. It adapts well to operational vibrations and minor deformations, delivering superior sealing performance, particularly in critical or high-load areas of the LiBr absorption heat pump.

In real-world applications, both types of seals are used in combination. The standard seal is applied in non-critical zones for general sealing, while the U-shaped seal is used in key positions where higher sealing reliability is required. Each plays an important role in the overall performance and safety of the LiBr absorption chiller.

Although small in size, the water chamber seal is a vital part of the LiBr absorption heat pump system. A well-selected and properly installed seal helps reduce the risk of water-related failures, enhances system reliability, and extends the service life of the equipment.
